Basic Loft Conversions

& Loft Storage Solutions

The most basic loft conversions are the ones that convert the room space into a floored storage area.

This is unsurprising as your loft is the most under-used area in your home.

And, if you are struggling with a lack of storage space in your house, it makes a huge amount of sense to convert the roof space.

Putting together a loft storage solution is reasonably easy and is fairly inexpensive.

But the kind of work to be done will depend on what you actually want to store in your loft space.

It is important to remember that the loft was not originally created to be a storage area.

You need to ensure that anything stored there following the conversion does not become damp or mouldy.

Modern building regulations demand rigorous insulation standards.

So if your loft area is properly insulated it will ensure that items stored there will remain in good condition.

There are various insulation options open to you, including fibreglass blankets, foam and loose fill insulation.

Loft boarding will need to be fitted as a floor and the joists may require strengthening if the original ones are incapable of bearing much weight.

Also, if you wish to make use of natural light, you could decide to fit a loft window.

If there is no light bulb already fitted in the loft, you will need to fit one and have it connected to your domestic electric supply.

Most lofts do not come with steps. A stepladder has to be used to access them.

However, as part of your loft storage solution you may decide to fit permanent steps, or a fitted folding ladder so you can easily get into the roof space.

In any home, especially one with a family, space is always a problem. By putting good use to the unused loft space you will go a long way to overcoming that.

With this most basic loft conversions it means you will be able to make the best possible use of the rest of your living space.
