Perpendicular battons on top of thick insulation
by: D

This is a follow on comment to the recommendation "provide counter battens to be placed perpendicular over the ceiling joists. " where there is thick insulation layed down already.

I was wondering if its OK to press down the insulation where the new perpendicular battons go over the insulation or do I cut and mover the insulation to fit into each of the many new grid location made by adding the perpendicular battons?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

D

It sounds like you have a thick insulation that hides the joists, what is normally done in a loft is the insulation is provided between the rafters.

In your case the only thing that we can advise is to provide counter battens to be placed perpendicular over the ceiling joists.

The depth of the battens should be deep enough to clear the residual insulation. You will then be able to board out on top of the battens.
