Compressing insulation

If you place boards on top of insulation that is thicker than the actual roofing truss timber, then you risk the plaster board bulging in the rooms below, also the thermal value of the insulation would decrease if it were compressed.

If you compress the insulation, you reduce the impact it has.

It's acually the air within the insulation that acts as the barrier.

So if it's compressed too much, there's less air, so less insulation.

Hope that's all ok.


No Problem

If you're worried about compressing the insulation you can always raise the height of the joists. This is of course if decreasing the available headroom isn't a concern.
