Hi Ian,

Ideal floor joist size is 8" x 2" as long as they do not exceed lengths of 5.5 metres.

If you decide to go for these then leave at least 2" gap from above the old joists.

By doing this you will not be harming the insulation and you will achieve a good floor for storage use.

Condensation is a difficult one this really does depend on your property.

Cables and Pipes will need to be avoided, take extra care when nailing/screwing.

Make sure the boards you use are flooring grade.
