Hello Ian,

Attempting to move these will no doubt cause weakness to your roof as it is hit by various elements - weather, wind and the weight of snow and ice.

The beams act as a support and should not be moved without proper replaced supports, ie rsj,s and or bigger rafters.

Get a good structural engineer to calculate the specifications and then follow his/her guidance on this.
