An Office Loft Conversion

An office loft conversion is a great way to put that empty space in your homes roof to good use.

For those working or running a business from home, finding room to work is often a big problem. Many homes do not have enough space from which to run an office.

However, there is an area in the home that is often neglected – the loft.

Of course the usual route that home owners go down is to convert their lofts for extra bed and bathrooms. But the roof space can also make a great place from which to work or run a home business.

With an office loft conversion you will have a room where you can do your day's work in peace, before going down to join the rest of the family in the evening.

When the loft conversion is completed it will just like moving into the best new office in town.

But unlike one that has already built and where you can be sure there will be everything you need, you will have to ensure your own “office in the loft” is properly planned.

There will need to be room for a desk, your chair, filing cabinet, phone and electric sockets for the your PC, printer, photocopier and maybe even a kettle for your cups of tea or coffee.

Not only will your new office need to be comfortable, it also needs to be safe to work in.

So the correct lay out of furniture and electric sockets should avoid the hazard-laden prospect of electrical cables being scattered about the floor.

Lighting in your office should be enough to allow you to see comfortably, but without causing glare. If your budget permits you may want to consider including skylight windows in your roof space, allowing you to benefit from natural daylight during office hours.

Of course you need to gain access to you loft space office. This will need to be from new and permanent loft stairs. It should be noted at this point that even a simple conversion such as turning the loft into a home office will need building regulations approval.

The decision to convert your loft space is a big one and, as it is essential that the whole project is drawn up properly, it will be in your own interest to use a professional architect or designer. He should also be able to advise you of any building regulations that apply to your office loft conversion.
