Hi Maureen,

With a two up two down you really do not have many options.

Stairs that are placed in the middle of properties are not very favourable for loft space.

The only option is to change the stair location. Instead of having them run from the middle place them against the wall near the kitchen.

This will require a lot of structural changes and loss of ground and first floor space but will increase loft space.

I think that keeping them where they are is best.
