In most other cases you would use normal loft insulation, laid in the loft 100mm laid between the joist and 150mm laid across the joist at right angles, if it is a ceiling between rooms ie ground floor to first floor, you could use a 25mm insulated plasterboard fixed to the existing ceiling joist.
